Bio
Paul
Margolis first picked up a camera at the age of 8. A documentary photographer,
writer and educator, his subjects include people living on the margins
of society, vanishing Americana, historic architecture, and the vibrancy
of life on New York City's streets. Additionally, he has been documenting
the effects of September 11th on New York City.
A unique quality of Margolis’ work is his
ability to capture, preserve and convey vanishing worlds. He often combines
images with text.
Margolis’ documentary projects include: Shad
Fishing on the Hudson, 1985-1986; The Farriers of New Jersey,
1987-1988; Jewish and Poor in New York, 1992-1993; The Jews
of Cuba, 1994-1996; The Jews of Ireland, 1996; 9/11 and
Beyond, 2001 (ongoing); Hidden Ellis Island, 2002; and The
Delaware and Hudson Canal, 2004 (ongoing).
