When I visited Ireland in 1996, the Jewish community had dwindled to a little over 1,000 members, from a high point of about 6,000 in the 1950s. The majority lived in Dublin, where there was still a functioning community infrastructure. However, the average age of the community was over 50, and most young Irish Jews left the country for better economic and social opportunities. I interviewed and photographed members of the Jewish communities of Dublin and Cork, photographed the cemeteries and remaining synagogues.
